The Granja Nueva property consists of 4 concessions totaling 3300 hectares that are to the north of Rio Tinto Zinc’s Granja porphyry copper deposit. The property is in Cajamarca Department in northern Peru and is located to the east of the community of Pariamarca. Access to the property from Chiclayo is via Incahuasi to the village of Tucto and from there by all terrain vehicle to the higher parts of the property. The trip takes about 5 hours. Elevations range from 2500 to 5000 m ASL and the valleys are deeply incised with very heavy vegetation.
The property is underlain by lower to mid Tertiary Calipuy volcanics. Regional faulting is at N40⁰W with a strong set of SW-NE cross faults.
A reconnaissance of the property identified four zones of interest: 1) Pena Negra - a 15 cm wide polymetallic vein that has old Spanish workings; 2) Jessica 57 – sinter and mineralized volcanic breccias, Cambior drilled 10 holes totaling 2100 metres that intersected several zones of anomalous copper: 3) Colpar 1 – 200 m x 90 m stockwork of quartz/ oxide veinlets in strong argillic alteration with isolated zones of vuggy quartz and alunite and; 4) Casquin - a large zone of weak argillic alteration with associated moderately anomalous copper in silt values.
